DATAstudio Meet Up #2: Smart Clues for Smart Living
How do digital technologies and the involvement of Eindhoven citizens relate to each other? This question is central to a series of meetings organized by DATAstudio in collaboration with various cultural institutions in Eindhoven. In this Meet Up in collaboration with Architectuurcentrum Eindhoven: how can the smart city provide useful information for spatial designers?
12 December 2016 19:30 - 21:30
There are many residential districts from the previous century that no longer meet the housing needs of today's society. A house designed for a traditional family is, for example, too small for a composite family and perhaps too large for a single-parent family. And assisted-living homes are increasingly offering accommodation to students in exchange for volunteer work. How can the technologies of the smart city provide information about new housing needs and the challenges posed by those needs? How can spatial designers, government and corporations interpret this data and apply it to the transformation of a neighborhood?
This meeting will also look at how the ambitions of the municipality of Eindhoven's "Living Vision" (Woonvisie), such as the densification of the existing city and space for citizens' personal initiatives, compare to those of the smart city. Can common goals be formulated in the field of housing and where do those commonalities lie?

About the DATAstudio Meet Ups: A city as smart as its citizens
This meeting is part of the series DATAstudio Meet Ups: "A city as smart as its citizens". In this series of meetings in cooperation with DATAstudio*, various cultural institutions in Eindhoven explore how digital technology and the participation of citizens from Eindhoven relate to each other.
Every Meet Up highlights the theme from a different angle, in order to explore both broadly and deeply as a series. The first meeting will be organized with the STRP Biennial on the human role in the Internet-of-Things (30 September) and at Architectuurcentrum Eindhoven the meeting will examine digital mapping of patterns and bottlenecks associated with living in the city (12 December). In 2017 more meet ups will follow.
At each meeting one or more experts will give lectures in which they discuss the issues from an international perspective. After the lectures, speakers and the audience will debate a relevant example from Eindhoven.
*The DATAstudio is part of The State of Eindhoven (De Staat van Eindhoven), a project by Het Nieuwe Instituut and the city of Eindhoven. In the DATAstudio we connect available data and technological capabilities to the reality of the street and the needs of residents.
