Book Presentation Nooit gebouwd Nederland

Nooit gebouwd Nederland by Cees Nooteboom is a personal and poetic account of the history of Dutch architectural designs which have never been built. Cees W. de Jong, editor of the book, will introduce the event.

6 February 2025 18:00 - 19:30

Kromhout, The Peace Palace in The Hague, 1906. Collection Nieuwe Instituut.

Nooit gebouwd Nederland portrays an alternative version of the Netherlands. It displays a country full of designs which have not gone beyond the drawing board, as they were deemed too fantastical, too advanced or technical, financially or politically unachievable. It is a reflection in word and image of architectural design in the Netherlands over the course of the past 150 years.

The publication is a statement on the quality of the built environment, on a design climate in which imagination comes first, and where there is room for the secret of the architect: space.
