An Evening With: ruangrupa
The artist collective ruangrupa will share their insights into a practice rooted in experimentation, collectivity, and trust as part of the neighborly activations during the Arus Balik program. Key to ruangrupa's approach are their ongoing efforts to sustain practices, relationships, and existing journeys through sharing, while considering this act of sharing as part of a deeper constellation of actions in which memory work, artistic endeavors, and archival pursuits play a role. Their contribution will focus on translating thoughts into actions—a 'gut understanding' that forms nodes in a network of enacted solidarity.
26 September 2024 15:00 - 16:30
The event will start at 17:00 hr (CEST) / 22:00 hr (WIB). You can also join the event online via the following link: stream.nieuweinstituut.nl.
ruangrupa
Ruangrupa is a Jakarta-based collective founded in 2000. It is a non-profit organisation that aims to support the idea of art in an urban and cultural context by involving artists and practitioners from other disciplines, such as social sciences, politics, technology and media, to provide critical perspectives on Indonesia’s contemporary urban issues. Ruangrupa also produces collaborative works in the form of art projects such as exhibitions, festivals, art labs, workshops and research, as well as book, magazine and online journal publishing.
Arus Balik – Shifting Currents
The evening is organised in the context of Arus Balik – Shifting Currents, a programme for autumn 2024 which explores design legacies between Indonesia and the Netherlands. Arus Balik – Shifting Currents aims to bring together architecture and design networks between the regions and their diasporas, recognising architecture and design as material witnesses to colonial histories and pathways to possible shared presents.
