An Evening About: Mien Ruys
Garden designer and researcher Joost Emmerik and writer and green heritage specialist Leo den Dulk look back on the work of garden and landscape architect Mien Ruys. With contemporary designers, they discuss how her ideas are continued by the current generation of garden and landscape architects.
28 November 2024 18:30 - 20:00
Mien Ruys (1904-1999) is a world-famous Dutch garden and landscape architect. She is seen as a pioneer of modern garden design and, as one of the first female designers in the male bastion of landscape architecture, worked with famous artists and designers such as Rietveld. Ruys liked to work with sleek shapes: rectangles, squares and clear lines. She was one of the first in the Netherlands to seriously concern herself with smaller city gardens as a garden architect.

This evening is organised in the context of Garden Futures: Designing with Nature, an exhibition about the history and future of the modern garden, on view from 16 November 2024 to 13 April 2025.
