Tilting Axis 2025: This Is My House
Nieuwe Instituut and Tilting Axis invite you to This Is My House, presented by Amanda T. McIntyre, this year’s Fellow. This evening revolves around the creative outcomes of Amanda’s research experiments with Caribbean masquerade and architecture. Amanda’s work uses a Baby Doll masquerade lens, a traditional Carnival performance, to reflect on the trajectory of Caribbean Carnivals.

This Is My House features a lecture by Amanda on the Caribbean architectural and sartorial practices in her work and a screening of the short film Two Years in the French West Indies. The event concludes with a conversation between Amanda and Quinsy Gario (Sandberg Instituut), known for his work Zwarte Piet is Racisme (2011-2012). The evening is moderated by Federica Notari (Nieuwe Instituut) with Annalee Davis (Tilting Axis) giving opening remarks.
Trinidadian artist, writer, and scholar Amanda T. McIntyre is the fifth recipient of the Tilting Axis Fellowship. She is the Creative Director and Lead Designer at the Dolly Mas Visual and Performing Arts Company. Her current project, Present Continuous, explores digital ways of sustainably archiving Caribbean masquerade cultures. This work critically weaves together performance studies, queer studies, architectural practices, and climate justice advocacy.
Tilting Axis Fellowship
The Tilting Axis Fellowship programme supports research practices and cultural exchange between the Caribbean and the Netherlands. As well as lead partners the Nieuwe Instituut and Tilting Axis, fellows work with other cultural institutions such as Amsterdam Museum, De Appel, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and Kunstinstituut Melly as part of the programme.
