MINUTES Teaser by KAAN Architecten
Architecture has long been an important subject for film, not just as a backdrop, but as a device to propel plot, create new worlds, and express a mood or atmosphere. However, while architects commonly use drawings, models and photography to represent their body of work, film has been relatively ignored. Could film be a crucial tool to unlock another way of seeing architecture - one that is not static, but imbued with motion in its day-to-day reality and experience?
On the occasion of this Thursday Night Live!, Brendan Cormier, who works as Senior Curator of Exhibitions at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, will introduce MINUTES and animate a discussion with the filmmakers who took part in the project. He will bring his experience of commissioning film for major exhibitions as a way of adding a new dimension of understanding for the viewer.
Participating filmmakers: Joana Colomar, Mirte van Duppen, From Form, Chris de Krijger, Jaime Levinas, Romain Loiseau, Dorian de Rijk, Tristan Soreau, Spirit of Space, Giulio Squillacciotti, Miguel C. Tavares, Katja Verheul, and Benitha Vlok.
MINUTES
Since 2017, KAAN Architecten has engaged in a dialogue with a group of international filmmakers, commissioning them to create short films about specific built projects. The collaboration resulted in the series MINUTES, consisting of 12 films, each of which relates to a specific context seen through the lens of the director. Every building tells a story - a story made of people and memories, troubles and happiness, daily routines and symbolic values.
A website dedicated to the project will be launched soon. Meanwhile, see updates about the project at kaanarchitecten.com.
