Research Team Reflects Upon Ten Years of its Fellowship Programme
We are pleased to announce that in 2025, the Research team at Nieuwe Instituut marks the 10th anniversary of the Nieuwe Instituut’s Research Fellowship programme. Over the past ten years, we have supported more than forty international and Netherlands based individuals and collectives, and hosted insightful fellowship gatherings and jury meetings.

We are building upon this success by delving deeper into ways of supporting practice-based, collective research methodologies that have defined the success of the Research Fellowship over a decade. Our focus will be on exploring how we can continue to support and facilitate a community of fellows and strengthen the network we have already developed and will continue to develop over the years. Following this reflection, we will launch a new Open Call for Fellows next year.
Stay tuned over the coming months for more updates about this programme.
In the meantime, please join us in looking back on the past 10 years of the Fellowship programme that was softly launched in 2015, beginning with individual fellows who were offered commissioned positions to conduct research in the areas of architecture, design, and digital culture. In 2016, the programme formally expanded with its first Open Call for Fellows, inviting a broader range of voices and perspectives to join the Research team for a period of six months. This initiative marked the start of practice-oriented fellowships calling for more transdisciplinary, collective research methodologies embracing embodied forms of knowing, learning and investigating, and to work through the relationship between theory and practice. These values and working methodologies will remain at the forefront of the upcoming trajectory.
