Design is Central to Het Nieuwe Instituut’s New Visitor Experience
Het Nieuwe Instituut opened its doors once more on 1 June 2020 with an inviting routing created by design agency 75B, spatial interventions featuring plants and flowers by Frank Bruggeman and the opportunity - with Only for You - for guests to have the museum all to themselves. Het Nieuwe Instituut offers visitors a safe, comfortable space in which togetherness, curiosity and creativity are central.

Design
Design agency 75B designed Abstract Electric Chemistry for Het Nieuwe Instituut, a new routing for guiding guests and employees through the building. 75B (Rens Muis and Pieter Vos) is a graphic design agency known for its colourful, bold and playful designs. For the routing, the designers searched for a form of communication that is inviting and not overbearing. The starting point for the design is the coding used to record chemical and electrical processes. Pieter Vos: /"It's a graphic language that people intuitively recognise./"
In Het Nieuwe Instituut 75B's design is combined with a spatial intervention by Frank Bruggeman, who uses plants and flowers to mark the movement space of visitors.
Maureen Mooren, Het Nieuwe Instituut's art director, is responsible for the graphic design of the new visitor experience.
Exhibitions
The exhibitions G/D THYSELF: Spirit Strategy On Raising Free Black Children and _The Hoodie_ can be seen at Het Nieuwe Instituut. These have now been extended following the temporary closure. In the foyer, the installation Set Stage Screen can be seen.
At the end of June, in Gallery 3 By You, an exhibition by Archiprix will open, featuring the best graduation plans in the field of (landscape) architecture and urban planning.
On July 11, Atelier Nelly en Theo van Doesburg opens.
In July, Gijs Bakker & K. Schippers: Basics opens in Sonneveld House with jewellery by Gijs Bakker and poems by K. Schippers.
Art on Display opens in September.
Opening hours and exclusive visits
The opening hours of Het Nieuwe Instituut and Sonneveld House have been temporarily adjusted. From 4 June, opening times are Thursday to Sunday, 1pm to 7pm.
Only for You offers one guest the opportunity to visit the museum completely alone, from the exhibition galleries to Sonneveld House.
Entrance tickets
As with all museums now, regulations mean visitors must purchase an entrance ticket for a specific day and time slot online in advance. The ticket gives access to the exhibitions in Het Nieuwe Instituut, museum house Sonneveld House and the bookshop of NAi Booksellers and the café.
