NWO Grant for embedded researcher in Critical Making
4 April 2017
The Critical Making NL consortium, consisting of Leiden University (Academy of Creative and Performing Arts), Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences (Willem de Kooning Academy, Creating 010), Het Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam, Waag Society in Amsterdam and West Den Haag, has been awarded a NWO grant for the project 'Bridging Art, Design and Technology Through Critical Making'.
With the aim of advancing the discourse around Critical Making, the grant will support four research positions. A PhD candidate and three practice-based researchers will work embedded at one or several consortium partners, and contribute to a four-year research trajectory, which in the case of Het Nieuwe Instituut will have a primary focus on algorithmic culture.
Under the supervision of the affiliated senior researchers and the institutes involved, the four researchers will apply artistic research as the methodological starting point. Two positions are already filled. Candidates for two other positions will be recruited in early 2018, one will be stationed at Het Nieuwe Instituut.
