The vase is inspired by two icons of Dutch glass art: the globe vase and the cube vase, designed by A.D. Copier for the Glass Factory Leerdam in the twenties. The Hutten Copier Vase 15 is the result of a collaboration between Richard Hutten, the National Glass Museum and Het Nieuwe Instituut.

Het Nieuwe Instituut: Richard Hutten in the Sonneveld House

The globe vase and cube vase by Copier are part of the interior of the Sonneveld House (1933), the house museum of Het Nieuwe Instituut. In 2013, Richard Hutten was the first guest curator of the Sonneveld House. At the invitation of Het Nieuwe Instituut, he responded to the architecture and interior of this pure example of functionalist building. With surprising interventions he created an exciting connection between the historical interior and modern design. As a result of this intervention, and by commission of Het Nieuwe Instituut and the National Glass Museum, Hutten used the same approach to this design for a vase: connect icons of the Dutch design history to contemporary design..

The Hutten Copier Vase 15

The square-shaped, mold-blown glass vase with rounded edges is 15 cm high and comes in five different models. Each model is available in a limited and numbered edition of 100 pieces. The five models each have their own character through their colour and finishing. The vases cost ¬129,00 each.

By Nationaal Glasmuseum Leerdam

The vase is produced by the National Glass Museum, under its own label by Nationaal Glasmuseum Leerdam. Since the spring of 2008, the National Glass Museum has commissioned dozens of designers and artists to experiment in complete artistic freedom at the museum's glass factory. A number of these experiments have led to the products that are now produced in (limited) series under museum's own label.

Richard Hutten

Richard Hutten (1967) has been one of the best-known designers from the Netherlands for over twenty years. He graduated at the Design Academy in Eindhoven in 1991. In the same year he started his own design studio, where he worked on the furniture, product and exhibition design. After graduating he became involved with the then newly founded label Droog Design and, as such, stood at the cradle of the international success of Dutch Design. For some years now, Hutten has been an adviser at Gispen, and in a sense can be seen as the modern-day successor of that famous interior decorator from the thirties.

The Hutten Copier Vase 15 is presented on April 25 during the opening of Innovation at the World Expo at Het Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam. On this day, Het Nieuwe Instituut opens three exhibitions in relation to the World Expo, including GLASS. Engine of progress.
