Het Nieuwe Instituut takes part in the iPRES Professional Visits Programme
14 August 2019
Het Nieuwe Instituut takes part in the Professional Visits Programme of the iPRES 2019 conference on 20 September. iPRES is the premier and longest-running conference series on digital preservation. The Professional Visits programme allows all iPRES 2019 attendees to take a peek into the digital preservation world of The Netherlands. The hosting organizations will offer guided tours in which they will present their achievements in digital preservation.
Het Nieuwe Instituut administers the National Collection for Dutch Architecture and Urban Planning, one of the world's largest architecture collections. It aims to increase the appreciation of the cultural and social significance of architecture, design and digital culture and to strengthen the interaction between these disciplines.
Since 2015, Het Nieuwe Instituut has been working on sustainable access to digital collections together with international partners, including CCA, the Dutch Digital Heritage Network, the National Archives, and the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision. The digital archive of the architecture practice MVRDV functions as an important case study in establishing a digital facility for managing digital archives, making them accessible to the public, further developing the collections policy, and transferring knowledge to heritage professionals.
During the visit, Het Nieuwe Instituut will present various projects and activities in relation to digital preservation, such as our digital preservation policy, the development of digital preservation facilities and our multi-year programme _Closer to Architecture_ about the visibility, usability and sustainability of the analogue and digitized collection. iPRES participants register through their registration form.
