Architecture and Interiors: The Desire for Style
Het Nieuwe Instituut and the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague have teamed up for the exhibition 'Architecture and Interiors: The Desire for Style'. This co-production offers an overview of this influential art and design movement through drawings, models and furniture. 'Architecture and Interiors' is at the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague from 10 June to 17 September and features a large number of works from the collection of Het Nieuwe Instituut, including original design drawings and models by Theo van Doesburg, J.J.P. Oud, Jan Wils, Cornelis van Eesteren, Gerrit Rietveld and Vilmos Huszár.
De Stijl postage stamps
As part of the celebrations of '100 Years of De Stijl: Mondrian to Dutch Design', Het Nieuwe Instituut and PostNL have issued a set of De Stijl postage stamps. The sheet of stamps, in an edition of 135,000, has been designed by PutGootink (René Put and Brigitte Gootink) and is based on images from the collections of Het Nieuwe Instituut and the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague.
Loans
This year, hundreds of pieces from the collection of Het Nieuwe Instituut are being loaned to other museums for exhibitions celebrating the centenary of De Stijl. Het Nieuwe Instituut's partners include Kunsthal KAdE in Amersfoort (The Colours of De Stijl), EYE Museum (during the Berlinale and the Cannes Film Festival) and the Centraal Museum in Utrecht (Rietveld's Masterpiece: Long Live De Stijl!). Through its loans to these exhibitions, Het Nieuwe Instituut is contributing to the mobility of the nation's art collections, a subject that is high on the agendas of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and the Museums' Association.
Mondrian to Dutch Design
This year is the hundredth anniversary of the founding of De Stijl. Many characteristics of this art and design movement are still visible today in contemporary Dutch Design. To celebrate this milestone, NBTC Holland Marketing has named 2017 the year of 'Mondrian to Dutch Design' with exhibitions and events in places throughout the Netherlands that have a connection with De Stijl and contemporary design. The exhibition 'Architecture and Interiors: The Desire for Style' is part of this manifestation.
