Museum Park Refurbishment
The advent of the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen depot has prompted the City of Rotterdam to make the outdoor space in and around the Museum Park greener, while reducing traffic. These initiatives have consequences for the accessibility of Het Nieuwe Instituut as well as the appearance of its immediate surroundings.

The ponds around the building will become greener, and a pedestrian platform will be built over the pond between Café Westkop and the entrance of Het Nieuwe Instituut. Under the ponds there will be a storage tank to accommodate excess water in case of heavy rain. Together with a new pond bottom and purifying water plants, this will help ensure cleaner water, encouraging more flora and fauna.
Museumparkstraat will remain closed to all traffic until the refurbishment is completed. Het Nieuwe Instituut will remain accessible for cyclists and pedestrians via Jongkindstraat. Visitors can use the entrance at 40 Rochussentraat, accessible via the arcade.
The redesign of the Museum Park is a design by landscape architecture firm Gustafson Porter. Read more about the design plans and the scheduling of the work in and around the Museum Park on the website of the City of Rotterdam.
