Venice Architecture Biennale 2020: Open Call Information Session

Het Nieuwe Instituut and the Creative Industries Fund NL jointly launch an Open Call inviting researchers and designers in the fields of architecture, urban design, and landscape to submit projects for the public parallel programme of the Dutch pavilion during the 17th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia in 2020. Information related to this Open Call will be addressed by Het Nieuwe Instituut and the Creative Industries Fund NL at Tac Eindhoven during Dutch Design Week. Debra Solomon, Afaina de Jong and Klaas Kuitenbrouwer will reflect on multispecies urbanism from their own perspective, followed by a Q & A.

Spatial Composition Sabine Marcelis

For the Cannes Film Festival Studio Sabine Marcelis designed a spatial composition that served as a meeting place for the international film industry. A variation on the composition is on show from 14 October 2017 in Gallery 3.

The Material Revolution

As part of its internationalisation programme - which focuses on material innovation, design and sustainability - Het Nieuwe Instituut has started collaborating with Vitra Design Museum. In this context, a design talk will take place on Thursday, 21 September, in the Vitra Design Museum, with designers Christien Meindertsma and Maurizio Montalti as guest speakers.

Alive. Active. Adaptive.

The international conference _Alive. Active. Adaptive._ on 19 and 20 June 2017 in Het Nieuwe Instituut inspired this Pop-in expo. The conference brought together design practitioners, researchers, engineers, architects and artists to discuss the future of emerging materials and the implications for design research and practice. The conference was organised by the DRS Special Interest Group on Experiential Knowledge (EKSIG).

Spatial composition in Red, Blue and Yellow at Cannes Film Festival

Het Nieuwe Instituut, EYE Filmmuseum and the Netherlands Film Fund have joined forces to curate the Dutch pavilion and offer Dutch design talent a podium during the Cannes Film Festival. Studio Sabine Marcelis has been invited to respond to the centenary of De Stijl in the form of a spatial design that will serve as a meeting place for the international film industry.

Games for Cities Conference

The Games for Cities programme hosts the first international conference with leading international 'city-game' design experts on 20 and 21 April in Het Nieuwe Instituut. Games for Cities, organised by Play the City and partners, aims to bring Dutch city-gaming practices into closer contact with international best practices. The programme combines keynotes on how city-gaming is the future of city-making with numerous city-game sessions.
