‘Euromast’ by Jaap Bakema on display in the Rijksmuseum

Het Nieuwe Instituut is lending the scale model of Jaap Bakema's 'Euromast' to the Rijksmuseum for the small presentation around Vilmos Huszár within the museum's permanent twentieth-century displays. The institute is also lending a monotype of Huszár's hand and a poster by Johan Niegeman. These loans are part of a long-term curatorial partnership between Het Nieuwe Instituut and the Rijksmuseum.

Loans to the Design Museum: Modern Nederland 1963-1989

Works by Joost Baljeu, Kho Liang Ie, Carel Weeber and Jaap Bakema and others from the collection of Het Nieuwe Instituut are on display from 23 March at the Design Museum in Den Bosch in the exhibition 'Modern Nederland 1963-1989', which examines the role of the Dutch government as a patron of modern design.

Collection Book for Children: Hi, I'm a Line

On 20 October, Het Nieuwe Instituut presents two children's books: one is a reader - Hoi, ik ben een lijn (Hi, I'm a Line); the other is an activity book - Hoi, jij bent een ontwerper (Hi, You're a Designer). Both books introduce children to highlights of the State Archive of Dutch Architecture and Urban Planning and to architecture as a profession. Initiator and author Behrang Mousavi and project leader Clara Stille-Haardt reveal how the books were devised.

Jelles archive catalogued

The archive of architect Evert Jelles has recently been catalogued and digitised. Jelles was a leading representative of the Dutch late Functionalist tradition in the period 1965-85 and is credited with rediscovering the work of Jan Duiker.

The Van Doesburg Archive: The Downside to Loans

2017 was the centenary of the founding of De Stijl, with numerous exhibitions in the Netherlands and abroad that featured works borrowed from the collection of Het Nieuwe Instituut. Loans are important for the mobility of the collection, but they also pose risks to the condition of the objects. To ensure their optimum condition, for the time being works by Theo van Doesburg from the collection will no longer be loaned to other institutions.

Recently acquired: WiMBY! Archive

Het Nieuwe Instituut has recently acquired the archive of WiMBY!, a project initiated by Crimson Architectural Historians and Felix Rottenberg to raise the standard of the large-scale restructuring of the post-war neighbourhood Hoogvliet in Rotterdam. This project differed from other urban renewal projects in the Netherlands in its unconventional approach: socially inspired, bottom-up and with a focus on social and spatial infrastructure.
