Digitising the Archive of Cora Nicolaï-Chaillet

A large part of the archive of interior architect Cora Nicolaï-Chaillet has recently been digitised as part of the Disclosing Architecture programme. Almost seven metres of archival materials have been translated into 9490 digital files. The digitisation of this archive, one of the few archives in the National Collection created by a woman, fits with our ambition to reveal non-dominant perspectives in architectural practice, thereby linking the collection to socially relevant themes such as gender issues and women in design.

Atelier Nelly and Theo Van Doesburg

Opening on 11 July 2020, an exhibition at Het Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam promises to cast new light on the work of De Stijl pioneers Nelly and Theo van Doesburg, following the restoration of their architecture archive. _Atelier Nelly and Theo Van Doesburg_ will recognise Nelly as a key figure in the consolidation of the reputation of Van Doesburg and De Stijl. The magnificent focus of the exhibition will be on the couple's most striking joint project: their studio-house in the Parisian suburb of Meudon.

Fragile drawings by Theo van Doesburg temporarily on show at the Belvedere, Vienna

Two drawings by Theo van Doesburg of designs for Café Aubette will be exhibited at the Belvedere, Vienna, from 14 February to 1 June 2020. That these drawings can now be exhibited at all is entirely due to intensive research and conservation work carried out by the _Disclosing Architecture_ restoration and conservation programme.

Theo van Doesburg in Barbican Art Gallery

From 4 October, two design drawings for Café Aubette from the archive of Theo van Doesburg will be shown in the exhibition Into the Night: Cabarets and Clubs in Modern Art at the Barbican Art Gallery in London. The loan of these drawings has been made possible only after research and conservation.

Disclosing Architecture. Masterplan for the disbursement of 11 million euros

On 17 July, Minister Ingrid van Engelshoven of the Department of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) issued a disbursement letter based on the 'Disclosing Architecture' masterplan officially allocating the first half of the 11 million euros awarded in March for the restoration, conservation and digitisation of Het Nieuwe Instituut's collection.

Now on display
